Program & Contents

 

Intensive daily course, 21 consecutive days, this teacher training program is a holistic experience which covers all aspects of yoga lifestyle. Based on ancient teachings, this training shares the basic theoretical and practical foundations that are useful for becoming a yoga teacher. The greatest value of this training is the fact that it integrates various types of yoga such as Hatha yoga according to Hatha yoga Pradipika, Ashtanga yoga from Patanjali, Karma and Bhakti yoga as prescribed in Bhagavad Gita, Satyananda yoga, and much more.

  • Basic & Preparatory movements: more than 30 basic & preparatory movements to warm up the muscles & align the joints are taught in the program. These movements help prevent injuries as they warm up the body and prepare it for the asana practice;

  • Yoga asanas: include about 90 different yoga poses, starting with poses for beginners, intermediate level & some advanced poses are also included for those who can do it easily;

  • Surya Namaskar: Sun Salutations is a dynamic series of yoga poses to revitalize the body and mind;

  • Pranayama: includes deep breathing, fast breathing, Anuloma Viloma/ Nadi shodhan (alternate nostril breathing), Surya Bhedan (right nostril breathing), Bhastrika (bellow's breath), Bhramari (humming bee breath), Ujjayi (psychic breath), Shitali and Sitkari (cooling breathing techniques);

  • Meditation: including chakra meditation, mindfulness meditation, So-Ham meditation, mantra meditation;

  • Yoga Nidra: is a  powerful meditative yogic practice for total relaxation, where the mind is trained to stay on the borderline of the sleeping and awake state and it can be practiced individually or together with any number of participants, in a room or closed hall by simply following the orally given instructions;

  • Mantras: the daily practice of chanting of Om and other old vedic mantras is the easiest way to withdraw the senses and help to introvert the mind;

  • Cleansing Processes: Jalaneti (nasal cleansing with saline water), Kapalbhati (frontal lobe cleansing breathing technique), Tratak (cleansing of the eyes through concentration on one point), Dhouti (Agnisar kryiya and Kunjal- vaman to stimulate the digestive fire);

  • Silence - we include periods of silence within the schedule, typically from bedtime until mid morning;.

  • Karma Yoga - selfless service;

  • Havan - fire ceremony;

  • Eating - yogic, mindful and proper diet.

THEORETICAL SESSIONS

  • Yogic lifestyle;

  • Yoga philosophy and different paths of Yoga (Hatha Yoga, Patanjali's Ashtanga Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, Karma Yoga, Jnana Yoga, Kriya Yoga, Kundalini Yoga, Mantra and Swara Yoga);

  • Human anatomy & physiology - basic knowledge of various body systems including respiratory, digestive, blood circulatory, nervous, musculoskeletal, reproductive & endocrine systems and how they are affected and stimulated by yoga practices;

  • Alignment principles and injury prevention in yoga (this will also be covered in practical yoga sessions);

  • Yoga therapy and yogic management of common diseases - there will be hints on the application of yoga for people with back problems, obesity, stress, digestive problems, diabetes;

  • Teaching methodology – how to properly plan a yoga lesson, to prevent injuries and ensure proper body alignment in postures; correction and assisting in yoga classes, encouragement & guidance of students on their path; practice of micro lessons teaching in groups;

  • Sanskrit - it includes mantras, the names of the asanas and other words commonly used in yoga;

  • Ayurveda - brief introduction, different body types & diet.

YOGIC LIFESTYLE

During the course you will be encouraged and guided to follow a lifestyle in line with all yogic principles - not only from a moral, ethical and relational point of view, but also practically, making you aware of your daily choices and habits: such as eating, sleeping and physical activity routines, consumption of stimulants and the associated effects on your body and mind.
CERTIFICATION

 

On successful completion of this course, which includes attendance of all classes, submission of assignments, and theoretical and practical mid-term and final evaluations, successful students will be awarded with a certificate from the Yoga Vidya Gurukul, India.

Yoga Vidya Gurukul was founded in 1978 by Yogacharya Dr. Vishwas Mandlik and is an Indian non-profit organization that have been conducting Yoga teacher training programs since 1983.

​

Their teaching programs and the research conducted related to yoga and promotion of yoga activities and lifestyle have been recognized by various departments of the government of India.
